Lectures Clinics and Discussion groups
Today
the way people interact and communicate has changed dramatically. Social
networking has become big and through like minded people starting up groups,
there is a vast amount of knowledge to draw upon. I find it terrific that
people of all levels can interact with each other globally. Like all discussions
some get side tracked, but in many ways that can be good as it allows for
people to ask for answers to questions that are important to them. I like to people to interact with the topic, lectures should not be stuffy but more like open talks, and clinics need to aid all that attend.
I
consider this format of discussion can be useful, for a group of
like minded people to take a horse or horses into a school, not for a formal lesson
but to discuss aspects of training and riding; it could be of interest to many. Clinics and lectures
have there place but how often when watching do you want to ask questions but
feel you can't. This informal gathering allows questions to be asked and people
to share important knowledge. This idea is not new as it was common practice in
the past but has now has been lost to the electronic media which has its
limitations.
These group meetings need a moderator that has an understanding towards all aspects that can arise, yet be able to get people to put forward their ideas. These sessions are about enjoying getting together with like minded fellow horse people. I have run these in the past by getting my students together so that they could bounce of each other, I am always amazed how different people can help each other, often over the simplest things.
If you have a venue and want to start something with a difference, or just a group of friends who want to have an interesting time together, may be you are in a face book group or society that is interested in getting together, there are so many reasons. The limit to the subjects is your imagination so ask for subjects that interest you.
Subjects can be about anything you choose but some suggestions are.
Classical - Discover the origins, understand how to develop the training, starting lateral work.
Dressage - beginning, advancing or understanding
Showing - training,
presentation, in hand and/or ridden
Starting younger horses
Even just basic schooling, everything starts somewhere.
